New to the Margaree River? Want the best chance at landing fish? Invest in a guided experience with our trusted guides. Here’s a list of fly fishing books for reading up before your trip.
Fly Fishing Books
New Handbook for Margaree by Mike Allen is the most current edition of an old classic, originally published by James T. Grey Jr. The book covers riparian changes, new access details, and points of interest along the Margaree River. If you buy one book for the trip – this is it!
River Talk by Mike Crosby is a collection of stories, tips and flies from Mike’s lifetime of fishing the rivers. Chapter 9 includes stories specific to the Margaree River. Chapter 12 is all about salmon flies. Wet flies, dry flies, fall flies, the different patterns and their applications.
Guides Eyes by Perry Munro is a collection of fishing memories, shared by Munro after over 50 years of fishing, hunting and trapping and working as a fly fishing guide. Included are stories about the Margaree’s Skye Lodge Pool, Brook Pool and Hatchery Pool. Easy to read short stories. More entertaining than informative.
“There will be a last trip for all of us, we just don’t believe it…if you’re putting off a fishing adventure…stop procrastinating and follow through. Life is filled with surprises!”
– P. Munro
A River Runs Through It And Other Stories by Norman Maclean is a classic fictional novel that every fisherman will relate to. A must-read, although not about Atlantic Salmon.
The Trout Diaries by Derek Grzelewski is about a year of fly-fishing in New Zealand. Another great read that’s not about the Margaree River.
